A native of Buffalo, NY, she works assiduously to align PASSION with PURPOSE. TRUEHEART, is Founder of TrueheartSpeaks Enterprises, an empowerment firm focusing on Purpose, Confidence, LifeStyle Management , Success and Spiritual Growth for women, girls, and professionals.
Detra delivers a power-packed message designed to ENGAGE, EMPOWER and EDUCATE. Believing there is death and life in the power of the tongue, Detra chooses to speak life from a true heart. She seeks to transform lives through her words as a SPEAKER, LIFE COACH, and CONSULTANT.
With a life changing message in every word she delivers, Detra believes the experiences she has been through are meant for others. She further believes that we are the sum total of our experiences, which are never meant to break us but to make us into what we were created and purposed for. Detra works with individuals, schools, colleges, not-for profits, churches and corporations. She designs each message with her audience in mind and provides solutions that her audience can walk away with and be empowered to put to use. She also designs each coaching or consulting session with each individual client in mind.
Serving in various roles such as speaker, consultant, life coach, entrepreneur, fundraiser, mentor, former pageant contestant and title holder, and national dance competitor, Detra has more than two decades of expertise in the areas of pageantry, personal and spiritual development and performing arts.
The opportunity to travel across the country as a national dance competitor, become Miss Buffalo, Miss Western New York, two-time third runner up to Miss New York State in the Miss America Organization, and 1st runner up to Miss Black World in 1994, among other pageant titles and awards, became the impetus for Detra to create the Young Miss Buffalo Scholarship and Enrichment Program, Inc. (YMBP). YMBP is a 16-week scholarship and enrichment program which serves young ladies ages 13-17 in the Western New York community and empowers them to reach beyond their own comfort zones through a process of healthy nurturing from the inside out.
A vested member of her community, Detra has received numerous awards for her work in the community including the 2012 Stop the Violence Youth Mentoring Award 2012; the 2012 Black Tie for Black History – Difference Maker Award; the 2011 Vision of Hope Community Award; the 2010 Business First Women of Influence Community Supporter Award. Detra was most recently nominated for the 2012 Buffalo Niagara Partnership ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award.
Detra holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Canisius College and two graduate degrees from the Bernard M. Baruch College with a Master of Public Administration and from Medaille College with a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. She resides in Buffalo, New York with her husband, Delshawn K.M. Trueheart, their son Dallas, and their puppy, Missy.
