For more than a decade, Detra has been motivating people to maximize every opportunity to excel and has worked assiduously to align passion with purpose. She delivers a power-packed message with passion, drive and conviction. Believing there is death and life in the power of the tongue, Detra chooses to speak life…from a true heart. She seeks to transform lives through her words as a MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, LIFE COACH and CONSULTANT.
With a life changing message in every word she speaks, Detra has been known to ignite a fire in her clients that never ceases to go out. She believes the experiences she has been through are meant for others and that we are the sum total of our experiences; which are never meant to break us but to make us into what we were created and purposed for. Detra works with individuals, schools, colleges, not-for profits, churches and corporations. She designs each message with her audience in mind and provides solutions that her audience can walk away with and be empowered to put to use. She also designs each coaching or consulting session with each individual client in mind.
A woman of many skills… a speaker, consultant, life coach, entrepreneur, fundraiser, mentor, former pageant contestant and title holder and national dance competitor, Detra has more than two decades of pageant, youth development and performing arts experience. She is also no stranger to the stage.
Answering an internal call to action to help young women become their best and to instill some of many life lessons she learned throughout her time on and off stage, Detra sought to be a part of the solution instead of just talking about the problem. Believing in the power of healthy competition and presenting your B.E.S.T. self during the pursuit of any goal, Detra M. Trueheart, founded the Young Miss Buffalo Pageant: Scholarship and Enrichment Program, Inc. (YMBP, Inc.) in 1999 for girls 13 – 17 years of age.
From her own experiences and believing that just creating a ‘pageant’ would not address the emotional, mental, and social issues that teenage girls are bombarded with daily, she added an enrichment component to teach life skills and coping mechanisms that would empower them to reach beyond their comfort zones through a process of healthy nurturing from the inside out.
Detra M. Trueheart received her formal education from Canisius College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, from Bernard M. Baruch College–CUNY with a Master of Public Administrationa, and from Medaille College with a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. She resides in Buffalo, New York with her husband, Delshawn K.M. Trueheart, their son Dallas, and their puppy, Missy.
